“Bill Martin is having way to much fun with his oil painting class. I sure hope they didn’t drain the whole bottle!”  Why don’t you join him in his art class?

May 22 Barbara Newport will have a living demo of her art style.

April 24 rowell Qinton will demonstrate “backgrounds”.

March 27 Sue Hunter demonstrated her pastel art.

February 26 we will have Karl Armstrong demonstrating his mastery of the colored pencil.

January 23 we had Gerald Ruggiero for an exciting program. And this is what he did while entertaining us with his artistic wit.

AAA is an umbrella organization of 34 art leagues, and holds semi-annual shows in their gallery at the Pavilions Shopping Center in Scottsdale. Member leagues have their own two-week show. Individuals in member clubs can apply for juried status to be eligible to enter the Holiday Show, and a special show in November honoring veterans.

• To become a juried member, check the web site for the next submission of your application, jurying fee and a CD showing three of your finest works! You’ll be notified immediately of acceptance so you can apply for entry to the shows. The forms for those, and the prospectus, are on their website.  Go to http://www.azartalliance.com/

• The deadline for application to the November show, themed “America – What a Great Country!” is October 19. It costs $35 for a 3-foot x 6-foot panel.
• The deadline for application to the Holiday Show, themed “Give the Gift of Art” October 18. It costs $50 a panel.
• The Holiday Show is coordinated through your rep, Barbara Newport, BSL4ART@a0l.com



A workshop in progress!

The workshop classroom is available for $50 if you wish to teach workshops. AAA will advertise on their website and with email notices. Several workshops are currently scheduled. Check the AAA website at azartalliance.com for more information.

The gift shop has been enlarged, and you need not be juried to display small items there, like prints and cards. Call Kelley Smith at 623-229-6720 for more info.

Magda also reports she displayed 27 paintings both oils and watercolors, prints and greeting cards in a one woman show/sale at her church Spring Event. She sold three watercolors, one print and a number of greeting cards.

Magda Gyparis received the Artist of the Month award for January. Way to go girl.!!!!!
Diane Shepard took a First Place for her “Oranges” at the State Fair…..and she sold it too!

Bill’s “Visitor” received an Honorable Mention.

Bill took a First Place in oils for his painting titled, “Don’t Eat the Daisys”.  
 
Among othere things, residents at Freedom Plaza have opened a small gallery in their complex.
The “company” provided some room space for them so they could hold workshops and display their work. The thumbnails shown here are part of their current display.

Midas was also done by Barbara when she and Dara Tolan attended the 24th Annual Verde Valley Days celebration. Way to go girls!
Water Color Days by Barbara Newport done while participating in 24th Verde Valley Days. Doris Canavan was chosen Artist of the Year at our last meeting in May.

Bill Martin’s art work shown below won best of show at the Celebration of Artists Exhibit and was purchased by the Peoria Arts Commission.”

“Annette Wyckoff is our miniature painter. No, she isn’t miniature, but her work is! This is a farm scene she has exhibited with PFAA.

“Lois Meyer was chosen for the February Artist of the Month Award”

Darry Gregory reports that she received a 2nd place watercolor in the Glendale Community College Exhibit.  Her piece will be published in the Traveler and it is shown here at the left. She writes, “No ‘waiting is not the name…..I’ve named it Feathers ‘n Bubbles.”

Chris Scotti was awarded the Artist of the Month for March.  Her awesome work of art is shown on the right. Way to go kid!
SCOTTSDALE SISTER CITIES ASSOCIATION
Promoting peace through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation — one individual, one community at a time.
Scottsdale Sister Cities Association is a member of Sister Cities International, which is a nonprofit citizen diplomacy network that creates and strengthens partnerships between the United States and international communities. Scottsdale Sister Cities Association and Alamos worked jointly on a unique art/cultural exchange. Fifteen hand crafted chairs were obtained from a furniture maker in Sister City Alamos and transported to Scottsdale. Talented artists in the Scottsdale area turned the chairs into a piece of art. The project is being called, Las Sillas de Alamos. Now completed, the have been on display around the city of Scottsdale: at Art Walks and other appropriate locations. The chairs will then be sold and the funds used to support student exchanges between Scottsdale and Alamos.
